One Year Anniversary Update

We have decided to reactivate our quarterly communication Headquarters Highlights; there will be four seasonal issues per year. The focus will be on Headquarter activities, financial status, classes offered by members, with details or hot links to their web sites and upcoming events at Headquarters:

One Year Anniversary Update

It doesn't seem possible but it has been one year this month that UCM's longtime president Reverend Sandy Clark retired and the board appointed an Interim Committee to serve on a volunteer basis for a year to develop, document current practices, and make recommendations about the programs going forward.

Within the first three months of that assignment, we had the additional responsibilities of the Education Programs, as both the Dean and Assistant Dean resigned on the same day, to pursue other interests.

It could have been an overwhelming responsibility, but fortunately we three were well supported by the full board and you, the membership, we thank you all for that. After discussion with the board, we agreed to continue our support for six additional months; committing to serve as this group through January of 2015. Changes will be initiated by the Board at the February meeting. But everyone on the committee is willing to serve further in whatever capacity the Board and the new President determine best for UCM.

Follows is a high level summary of our accomplishments in this year:

Financial: Historically the church has run at a deficit of $30k on average, drawing down on reserve monies banked from the sale of the UCM church building. In the first year of our management we reduced the deficit to $6K. Also initiated was the option of semi-annual dues payment or permanently moving the payment date to July of each year.

Current Expense Reduction:While payroll savings account for the majority of reduced expenses other areas of savings have been in credit card fees, meetings, postage, telephone, insurance and website costs.

2014 Financials: As of June 2014 our income was $13,089 and our expenses totaled $21,959 a loss of ($8,843), compared to a loss in 2013 for the same time period of ($25,600). We anticipate being solvent by the end of 2015 and going forward.

Membership:We are excited to have our student membership base begin to grow, members returning who had left before and renewals that remained stable, even through the loss of our previous education program. Charter interest has grown and the loss of charters through death or serious illnesses of the charter holder have been replaced by the initiation of new charters.

Education:The painful decision was made by the Board that the degree program was no longer a viable option and it was discontinued. The Board decided that UCM would develop and offer classes to support sponsorship and existing ministers via a monthly program offered at Headquarters, with the handouts available on line. This has been well received and the modest donation assists with the rent and supports our goal of having events self-fund. Rev. Richard Jelusich, Ph.D. has accepted the role of education chair. Next year we are looking at developing classes for all categories of UCM certificates.

IT:One of the things that will help UCM move into the future without a fully paid position in the office will be the effective leveraging of technology. We are working on expanding the web site to offer more information for members, and individuals interested in learning about us. We have already upgraded the Universal Church of the Master face book page thanks to the efforts of our newest board member, Rev. Kyle Burch, Ed.D.

Administration:We have been working diligently to streamline office processes, create a policy and procedure manual. We have initiated work on a financial procedure manual, as our treasurer, Rev. David Skinner has established approved general accounting activities.

Spirituality:we have initiated a monthly altar in Headquarters, primarily completed by local members, that is shared via our prayer requests. Prayer is a critical part of our work, and it is rewarding to have such a large base supporting that work. Keep those prayers coming they bring positive results!!
